Today, we are very excited to announce a new advisor has joined uBiome, Dr. Spencer Wells. Dr. Wells, is a leading geneticist, anthropologist, Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society and Professor at Cornell University.
Dr. Wells brings a breadth of expertise to uBiome’s management team with outstanding scientific credentials, including graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin, a PhD from Harvard University, and postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford University and Oxford University. He is the leader of National Geographic’s Genographic Project, which has collected and analyzed more than half a million DNA samples from people around the world to determine how humanity came to populate the Earth.
As the author of three books, The Journey of Man, Deep Ancestry, and Pandora’s Seed, 74 scientific papers, as well as the subject and advisor for numerous documentary films, Dr. Wells is a well-known and engaging scientific communicator. His fieldwork has taken him to more than 80 countries, where he has worked with everyone from heads of government and Fortune 500 corporations, to tribal chieftains eking out a precarious living in places as remote as Chad, Tajikistan and Papua New Guinea. He brings an in-depth understanding of genetic research and the importance of Citizen Science projects like uBiome.
In addition to Dr. Wells, uBiome’s Advisory Board is made up of several prominent researchers and subject matter experts including Dr. Joseph DeRisi, Dr. Jonathan Eisen, Dr. Pablo Valenzuela, Linda Avey, Dr. Larry Smarr, and Dr. Meghana Gadgil, MD.
